Horns, mirrors, wax and paint ….

THURSDAY, SEPT. 16, 2021

I ran some impromptu power out to the garage today — the old line that ran overhead to the barn was a 120 v line, and we had to cut it down because it was in the way of the garage roof. The line has been coiled up by the back porch ever since, so today I bought parts to put a four-banger outlet on the end of the cable so I could at least get some power to the garage. I moved our large fan and the 8-track am/fm radio to the garage.

I’m still not really sold on the new horn, but I have to say that its got a great — and loud — sound! It accomplished exactly what I wanted to do — install an appropriate horn for the Plymouth. The part I’m not sold on is how the horns are mounted. I really would like to separate the two horns and mount them in a similar manner as the originals — one mounted on each side of the radiator support. Having the mounted together just doesn’t look right.

Today I wrapped up the horn ring re-install. I popped the hood and found that the air cleaner will clean up pretty nicely. I think I’m going to remove it and give it a good cleaning in the next few days.

MIRROR, MIRROR. I looked at replacing the drivers side mirror; the one on the car has rusted and doesn’t work well. The new one looks like the original, just has a slightly different mounting system.

WAX JOB. The Whiskey City Cruisers is a week from this Saturday, and I need to give the car another coat of wax before then. I’m going to clean out the trunk too, I’m still carrying my working radio for the car and some other parts.

PAINT ORDERED. I submitted an order for a quart of ready-to-spray light blue paint, and I’m hoping it will provide a good match for the existing paint. If so, I’ll use the paint for spot repairs. Rather than tear the car down for a complete refinish, I’ll do smaller areas … or that’s the plan, lol!
